Cerebral cortex thickness studies

Variation of the cerebral cortex has been associated is a measure that has been associated with neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, among others. The quantification of the thinning of the cerebral cortex in certain areas allows early detection of the disease and the differential diagnosis with respect to other ailments with similar medical conditions.

We have developed a method for calculating the thickness of the cerebral cortex that begins with the segmentation of white matter, gray matter and cerebrospinal fluid in a magnetic resonance image. Our algorithm then calculates the thickness with high numerical precision.
